Dealing With Reality

Hey, wait till your 30s and 40s! The 20s are a piece of cake. Keep the pup, kids and dogs go together like peanut butter and jelly. If you wait till you have enough time and money, life will pass you by. Remember, work hard - play harder!

Really consider keepin the pup make time do your best just love it to death!

Travis I though you were a tuff dude..... how about you let one of us remove em! lol hope you get better bro.

Let me present the other side of the coin. I'm 47, couple of kids house, mortgae etc.... I've always wanted a hunting dog and in my mind it was never the right time. In 8 short years, my youngest will be out of the house and the wife and I hope to be retired and doing some of the things we have had to put off due to careers and kid respsonsibilities. When I'm retired, I don't think it will be the right time to have a dog either as we do intend to travel around and I don't want to keep the dog in the kennel all the time. Do I have any regrets, yep sure do. Wish I would have bought a dog when the kids were young and we were all around to appreciate the it. Would I do things differently if given a chance to do so - in a heartbeat.

Something to consider -

Thanks to everyone for the support and great advice. I have truely taken everything you all said to heart. I really appreciate having a honest group of peers to talk to.

I did end up sending the dog back to the breader, which was no problem. If anyone wants to deal with a great guy in buying a Pudelpointer, Bob Farris at Cedarwood Kennels is the one. I just felt that there will be a better time to get the bird dog. I think when kids come and I am really tied to being home, that will be the best time. And what kid doesn't love having a puppy around?

If anyone lives in or around Portland, Oregon, let me know. I am new to this area and need advice on the best ways to hunt this area, both for ducks and upland birds.

Thanks again to eveyone on this site.
