Dear friends of the DHBP,

You will recall the wonderful effort by all here, that participated in the Travelling Decoy Program that involved Lee Harker's grandson, Blake. The outpouring from those who contributed was inspiring and amazing.

This past Sunday, the MLB held its Annual Upland Bird hunt. Here is a link to a small story with photos of the event. A video was shot in MOV mode, and if I was computer savvy, I would attach it here. It depicts the actual presentation of the decoys and log books to Blake. If someone can help with getting this loaded, I would be most happy to pass it along.

A huge thanks to all who participated in the Travelling Decoy Program, and to brother Pete McMiller for driving all the way from his Wisconsin home, to be there.

God Bless All,

Mark

Looks like he is the fine young man/hunter his Grandpa was so proud of. Nice seeing that.

Mark,
thank you so much for the pictures. It was a very rewarding look at a boy who appears to be well on his way to a life of enjoying the great outdoors.

I would love to see the video. Looks like the hunt was a very good time for all, and the dogs esp.

I hope they have a big mantle at home to fit Colby the black duck on.

God Bless you and your guys.

Mark,

I'd be happy to try and get the video linked here if you want to send it to me. Email: rwerden01 (at) yahoo.com. Wish I could have been there.

Thanks,
Ryan

Yes, it was a fun day. Blake is quite a shot for 11 years old - shooting 3 pheasants himself. I was really surprised at how much he has grown just since our hunt the end of October.

Thanks Mark for the post and photos. What a great time for Lee's grandson. Thanks Pete for all the time you put into this. And thanks to Chuck for another great traveling decoy plan and execution.

A huge thanks to Chuck Jagger for thinking of including Blake in this and setting up all the details for this grand traveling decoy journey...

Blake was totally surprised with the presentation last Sunday, he had no idea that the decoys were going to be given to him. He had actually just asked me about a week before when the auction was going to be on here and if we could at least bid on them.

He sat and read and re read those journals every chance he could get all week long, had to put them up to get him to do his social studies home work...

I would also like to thank all of you who took the time to take out the decoys and note in the journal of the stories and mentions of dad, and money to ship those around. That darn black duck must have cost a mint to ship!!!!

After reading threw the journals the first time Blake came out of his bedroom and said "boy I knew grandpa was a great guy, Im glad so many other guys really got to know that too" brought tears to my eyes and I said "yeah Blake grandpa sure was one in a a million wasnt he"...

OK enough with the mushy crap

A HUGE THANKS AGAIN to ALL of you who played a part!!

Bridget and Blake

Once in a while it's good to reflect about the "mushy crap" in life. Makes us appreciate all the good things that have happened and the good people we have met.

Your post made all this worth it - Thanks.

Bridget, It was my honor and pleasure to hunt over a decoy your father carved. He held a very special spot on this forum. Blake nailed it when he said he was a good guy.

Some where, Some place,
When the sun first peeps through
Kindred souls meet again
The sounds, the smells
No words need be spoken
They know....

video is great. Good to get to see the gift making its way HOME.

I cant think of a nicer way to put a finish on a year long effort to remember a good friend and honor his traditions for his family.

Im so glad we got the video to work, I wasnt there for the presentation... I let the men folk go out with out me... ; )

Thanks again guys!!!!

Blake is still reading and re reading those journals!!!

That video really adds to the sense of satisfaction we all got from this project. Chuck and company know how to get the job done. Many thanks to all those that participated to give a young man something to remember his grandfather by.
