Many people are still in shock over the loss of Lee. I have been in touch with his lovely daughter Bridget. She is deeply grieving, and who could blame anyone who was loved by this wonderful person? I can only imagine what a wonderful father Lee must have been, and this only due to the fact that he was such a wonderful friend.
For the past 12 years, we have been gathering for a Fall hunt under the auspices of something we have called the MLB Convention/Hunt. Lee himself attended 10 of these events, which spanned two different Canadian Provinces, as well as the wonderful States of Wisconsin and Michigan.
This year, I think it is only fitting to honor Lee by renaming this great event, and doing so in rememberance of our dear brother.
That said, consider this an open invitation to join us this upcoming October 29, 30, and 31st on Houghton Lake in Roscommon County, Michigan. This is one magnificient lake, and magnificiently LARGE as well. The best hunting opportunities are for open water and diver hunting. Boat blinds and layout boats will be the best gear for this sometimes dangerous body of water. AT over 20,000 acres in size with an average depth of less than 8', it can be a salad bowl of delectable foods for the Scaup, Redheads, Cans, Buffleheads, and Goldeneyes that frequent it.
Puddle duck hunting opportunities are almost non existent on this lake. However, I am researching puddle duck hunting opportunities within a 50 mile drive of Prudenville, MI.
Please jump on board and ask questions, make comments, etc. In the spirit of our dear late brother Lee, we can celebrate his life and his love for all things waterfowl as we band together.
There are many resorts around the lake, including a few different boat ramps. More details will be forthcoming, but do consider yourself invited. As with our past Convention/Hunts, these outings are typically Bring Your Own Rig. Still, there may be odd opportunities to spend some time in a layout boat. I will leave that to the layout captains to make such offers. There might even be a spot in my layout from time to time.
We'll close the weekend out with a dinner/get together. Hopefully, when we get a head count, we can find a local restuarant that can host a group of that size.
I will also post this message over at the DHBP... Lee's first love in websites, or at least, I believe. And, deservedly so. It's a great website, where he had many, many friends.
In closing, when you look towards this Fall and what hunting opportunities may present themselves, I humbly suggest that this one might be one that you will never forget. Looking back, I can think of the many times I spent time on these trips with brother Lee, or has he named himself, MLBLEE. Each and every minute we spent together, I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life.
God Bless All,
Mark
