Decoy Anchors

How do you wrap the line so it stays when the decoys are stored? On the H-weight, you pull a loop through the hole and over an ear. Do you put a turn in the line and make a slip knot over an ear? They looks small to handle with gloves, and take a whole bunch of wraps to pull in 15ft of line or so on the divers?

TIA, Dave

I wrap the line around the anchor and put a loop over one of the ears to keep the line wrapped up or at a set depth. If the line is wrapped up I undo the loop around the ear, throw out the decoy, and the weight unwinds to the bottom. When I pick-up I usually wrap the line around the keels with the last couple wraps around the decoy head. I do not wind it back on the weight while picking up decoys. I have ~20' of line, tarred nylon, on some of my decoys I hunt at the deeper lakes.

Before you pour all of the lead per anchor put a piece of galvanized wire in the mold for reinforcement then top off with more molten lead. I use a small one eyed burner to melt lead in an old iron pan. Much cheaper than a Hot Pot etc.

Be careful and don't get any water in the molten lead.

Good Luck,
Harry
