john ford said:Ken Anger?s decoys are hollow, crafted of two thick laminated red cedar boards. Anger joined the upper and lower pieces with glue and then drove a wood screw in either side to keep the pieces from shifting while drying. Afterwards, Anger removed the screws, filled in the holes, and inadvertently gave his decoys a unique identity. His cousin Cecil left the screws in and uncovered- the best way to identify either man?s work.
I?m not familiar with that carver. A quick search shows a can he carved in the late 80s sold at auction for couple hundred bucks. There are a couple good facebook groups about Ontario Decoys if you want to find out more about him. Search ?Canadian Decoy and Outdoor Collectible Association? and ?Southern Ontario, St. Clair Flats & Toronto School Decoys.? I?d love to see some photos if you want to send them through PM or here, I don?t want to derail Nick?s post.Rod VanZile said:Mark,
I have a hen Bufflehead I picked up at the Pointe Mouillee festival a number of years ago.
It was carved by Thircul Church from Port Dover, Ontario. Are you familiar with him or his decoys?

I noticed that sibling comment on G & D, I have also seen it listed that Ken and Cecil were brothers. Based on my research and discussions with Dunnville locals, they were cousins.thomas wilkins said:Question about the relation of Cecil Anger to Ken Anger. The Description On G&D says Cecil was the son of Ken Anger. Ken Anger was a life long Bachelor.
Ken Anger was born in 1905 and Ceil was born in 1900. So that does not make sense. Any one no who Cecil was to Ken Anger?

For many years at the Ohio Decoy show, held in March. There were several Canadian decoy "experts", authors of decoy books, and decoy dealers that attended the show. Mr. R. Paul Brisco was just one.
It was at that show that I became aware of how many very good, and outstanding Canadian decoy carvers, and makers there are. Also there were many examples of their work to examine first hand. Plus very good displays, and talks given by the authors of books.
The show has reconnected the collectors & carvers this year after a long hiatus.
It maybe worth it to check the listing of decoy dealers, authors, etc. of Canadian Decoys that will be attending the show this year. There was always a very strong showing in the past, but that was then, and this is now. If so it would be worth it to check it out.
my 2 cents
