Decoy identification

Those look like homemades with Herters heads. The birds with wood heads are LL Beans, generally hens were low head and drakes were high heads.

Not much for the ones with Herters heads. LL Beans 20-40 depending on condition. I just picked up 3 pintails with good original paint for 100 shipped to me, pintails are a little harder to find than mallards and black ducks.

Your correct! Ll bean said they could be 20-30 years old, and they seem to be in good shape! They sell super mags for 99 a piece. Not sure what to do with the ones that have the herters heads?

Brad,

Carve up some new heads, shape the bodies a bit better, repaint and use them.

Heck my first geese I carved in 1982 were reshaped once, then recently turned into brant, with new heads and tail boards. Never let cork go to waste.

What you have are magnums by todays standards; LL Bean offered two sizes Coastal and Coastal Magnum, you have Coastal's. The older decoys, yours included, are of MUCH higher quality than the decoys they sell now. Today's Bean decoys are better suited for a life on a shelf.

Depending on how dry the cork is you may want to seal them before you repaint them (if you choose to repaint). There have been a few threads on Bean rehabbing in the past, the search function is your friend.

Enjoy them, I love LL Bean decoys.
