Decoy paint question - Trying oils

Anybody else tried using Omni AU to flatten their enamels? Spent last Saturday watching a local carver work and he swears by the stuff. He gets it at CarQuest. I don't know how or if it affects durability but it sure prevented gloss.

Great idea Steve.
All my cats eyes and solids were eventually taken by my fourth grade teacher Mrs. Snipes. She thought gambling was wrong for fourth graders. We didn't allow steelies as they would chip cats eyes if you were thumping your shooter.

Guess you can buy marbles at Wally World ?

Do you find that the colors map up to the traditional colors. (ie) burnt sienna to ?, raw umber to ?

I can blend and mix a little bit, but I'm not an artist, just a hack. So I need some basic guidelines when it comes to colors.

I think marbles would float in my Ronans...do you have to push them under? hehe

Lee, sounds to me like you got a couple of bad/old ones. I haven't used alot of it, but I do know that I bought a can at Westlake in '06, that I opened and used when I got home and then never opened it again until last month and it was fine, same as when I bought it... maybe a hair thicker, but not skimmed over. (stored upside down)

As with any paint... it bums me out that the companies don't put a "born on" date on that stuff. I got a couple tubes of alkyds in my last order that are almost junk, I may get a 1/4 of the paint out.

Dwane, the first I got was at Westlake a few years ago and it seemed fine..I liked it and got a bunch of colors on line..they were fine for a while, I still didn't like the way they dried between strokes though..didn't paint anything for about a month and they turned to crayon on me. I can get a pint of rustoleum for a couple bucks and add a squirt of tubes to it and am happy now. Congrats on the big win at Westlake..the pic of you in the pool was great.

I second Steve on the Ronans - they are great paint. Here in the land of hot (Northern CA) they dry much too fast for me and using linseed will extend the work time. Careful though, to much linseed will make the paint a bit shiny. For oil painitng i have tried everything and like Ronans the best. While i feel more comfortable with Acylics, ronans is the best option for the long term.

Hey Joe,
If you go to an art store, you can buy a color wheel. The wheel will show you how to mix your colors to find what you want. The wheel is a Godsend.
