Decoy Painting Books

This may not be a direct paint book, but will be a valuable asset once you start dealing with color
DUCKS,GEESE, and SWANS of NORTH AMERICA--Francis Kortright--Stackpole Books--if is out of print, but i will bet if you have a bookseller around where you live, you can get a copy at a reasonable price---The illustrations by TM Short will also help--Your most valuable asset with this book is to have good specimens in a freezer to use as references, also. I have at least four of these books in the house, including a first edition, signed, thanks to a good trade with Dave Shady!!

Hi Jeff,
You looking for puddlers or divers? We stock several books. You can download and check our catalog if you'd like at: www.lockstockbarrell.com
Probably the most basic but comprehensive (carve & paint) would be the book by Costilow. The Burke books are excellent all around for painting. I have the Puddler book in stock but am currently out of the Diver book.
Let me know how we can be of service.
Lou Tisch

Can anyone recommend several good paint pattern books?

Call Willy or Di at the Duckblind. They run a web site store at www.theduckblind.com. They have just about any species of waterfowl in photos or DVD. Their reference material is excellent and very well priced. I've bought a few sets and have never been disappointed. Also, Willy can help answer any questions you might have about painting or carving. They're the best people in the business.

Later,

Dave

Two books that I always recomend is Mark Costilow's book on gunners. Wildfowl carving and collecting published it as one of their workbench projects. Lou or Willy may have it also. The other is the one Tom Matus did on Mallards. Published by Stackpole--I think?

I always seem to go to the Burke books for paint mixtures..give Lou a call. Lou also has a vid for painting drakes and one for hens...if you can stay awake listening to him. Honestly, they are very good for beginners having a hard time as to where to begin.

Thanks Lee, I'd forgotten about the videos......doh.
We have a 2-disk, 4 hr DVD on painting six drakes: Buffy, GE, BB, RH, Can & Mallard. Also have a VHS tape on painting the Hen Mallard in 2 different styles. Info is in the catalog.
