Delaware Hunting Pics

Went to Delaware to hunt with my buddy John Wolzak(sp?) for a few days. We were supposed to go Eider hunting in RI first, but it got cancelled due to bad weather and a lack of birds. We hunted ducks and geese the first few days because of bad weather, then went to the bay for some Old Squaw and Brant. I lucked out on a good Red Brested Merg and a stud black duck as well. Had a great trip, and gunning those Squaw in a layout was awesome!! Can't wait to see them on the wall!

Way to go Dave,

Looks like a real memorable trip. Those brant look real healthy with a couple being noticably bigger than the others. Glad it was fun.

Sweet Dave.Nice rig, great pics ,and nice bag. What camera equipment did you use?Loved the back-lighted shot.

Thanks guys, I can't wait to go back!! I could've stayed in that layout boat for days shooting "at" the Squaw! Those buggers are hard to hit, and are tough as nails. The camera is just an old, handheld digital fuji, no big deal. The pic would have been better if I had a tripod.

Hey stranger. Looks like that hunt has become a real annual thing. Did you take the black ducks from the layout?

The layout boat was my buddies, it is a UFO, and it is a lot more roomy than mine. I built a Busick that I use in Alabama.

Eric,
Doing well. Actually that was my first time up there, but Blake and company have been there a couple of times. I hope it becomes an annual trip, as it was great. The black ducks didn't come from the layout, but right across the bay in a marsh, and it was my first, so I was extremely happy. Hope you killed some ducks on your Arkie trip. Keep in touch.

We usually bag a Black duck or two every season around here. It's the pintails, like Todd Langston noted, that are so elusive. I heard you bellied up to a stump recently and had a good hunt.

Thanks and keep in touch.

Eric

Yeah, I'm still waiting on a good Pinnie myself. You heard right, and I'm gonna belly up to it Friday as well. Got some new dekes in the mail!!!!

Dave,

I built a Busik a few years ago and use it here on the lake. I tis a bit cramped but it seems to be the only way to beat the GA crowd anymore. There is nothing like having the satisfaction of knowing that there is no way thet can come in at 6:30 and set up 50 yards from you because you are in the middle of the lake. That is about the only hunting I have done on the lake this season. I did have a pair of Pintails in my diver spread last year in about twelve feet of water. Was the most unusual place for them to be. I crippled the drake and never did recover him but it would have been neat to have killed my fisrt "bull" in a layout spread in the middle of Lake Guntersville. Hope you do well thr rest of the season.

Hey Todd,
I built a Busick as well a few years back and if it wasn't for me being smaller framed, I would have gotten rid of it, because it does get uncomfortable after a while. I to enjoy dragging it out to the lake and sitting where the ducks are, not being on the bank or an island looking at where the ducks are. I'm focused on GE's this year, and they have been testing my patience. All I want is one to put on the wall. It is tough manuevering those layouts by your self sometimes, but well worth it. Give me a shout sometime, and we'll drag both of them out and gun some divers.

Dave

We need to try to put something together. I have killed several GE's over the years and have a good one mounted. I too hunt by myself with the layout and it gets hard sometimes. I like to put out big spreads so it it takes me some time to get everything set up. I just can't talk my buddies into running a tender and swapping up in the layout. The few times I had it out this season we have had shots at GE's but the guy in the boat "airballed." I'm going back to AR this weekend but if I am around next weekend I may try to get in touch to see if you want to try and do a hunt.
