Depressed

I buy all these nice toys and don't get to use them. Then, when I try...I get turned back. Left the city with my Momarsh Fatboy DP and headed out to Long Island during the blizzard; early at 3:45am on Thursday morning. Trekking through the snow, some being virgin; undriven in. I arrived at a marsh that I hunt quite often on the south shore by the Robert Moses Causeway; only to find it completely frozen over with a flood tide. I turned around and drove home deflated. Got up again today and headed out at 4:00am. This time, I tried to hunt the state channel; only to find it iced up as well. I was wondering if any local LI hunters know of any areas that I might be able to hunt. I also have a 14' Bankes with a 40hp Yamaha for traveling further; although I have only been out once ever in this boat. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Think of it as a blessing, you should not hunt the blizzard. There are plenty of days to hunt. Remember this quote
"There are old duck hunters, there are bold duck hunters, but there are not old bold duck hunters.

That quote is so true. Think about the 21 year old kid from MA that headed out to hunt in a kayak earlier in the week and has still not been found. I was thinking about heading out in the morning both Friday and Saturday to walk in spots and exercised judgement and stayed in until afternoon. Even drive in spots stuff can happen so even though it hurts not being able to go you will live to go another time.

With the winds changing direction in the NE for the next two days my hope is that some of the ice will clear but I do not think enough to open up my honey holes before the seasons end next Saturday. Good luck with the ice it can be our friend and foe.
