I truly love my sportspal 14'. It is the older american version with the 1 piece aluminum hull. It only weighs 41# with a 38" beam,800# capacity, and 3 HP rating. The foam spontoon adds more beam and stability. I probably added a few pounds with my Mods but it is still very manageable. I frequently stand in it and when I run the electric motor (55# thrust) I sit on the stern deck with a cushion and fish. Thats something you could never get away with in a regular canoe. I did lose my balance and fall back into the boat while paddling standing up so that probably isn't recommended. I love the foam lining but agree I wouldn't want to use it in saltwater. I heard if you remove the foam and paint the interior first it would be O.K. but I like the boat too much to risk it , plus its a beast to paddle in real strong winds and not made for rollers. Its also not made for shooting rapids so I probably shouldn't talk about my experimental float hunt on the river near me but lets just say the side motor board and an ice shelf had a disagreement and I have another project again.
Steve its unfortunate about the war zone robo duck crowds but I'm willing to endure some pain because the Northeast zone opens before the Southeast and I'm looking at expanding my opportunities as well new adventures.
