Over my life time I have had many Retrievers (Labs). A bunch of really good ones. But ! I'm sure most of you have had that once of a life time dog. Mine was named Henry of the Hudson. What made this dog so much greater then any others I have ever had, He was given to me by my late friend Mike. Mikes wife use to make pies and cakes all the time. Mike had two other dogs. Mike's wife put all the bake goods on the dinning room table. None of the other dogs were smart enough to get to the goodies. But one day young Henry found out he had great jumping powers, Henry made it to the pies and the cakes. Covered in all kinds of frosting and berries. Henry! had to go, Or Mike did, Mike knowing I trained and breaded dogs came to me for help. His dog was about a year old and I had two small boys. So I was a little worried about taking this fine looking yellow lab. But once the kids saw him. It was all over, I had to go for it. Henry was a red fox looking yellow lab. Pretty as anything and he loved kids. If you call humping loving. But we took care of that.
At the same time Henry came I got hurt really bad at work. So I got to spend lots of time with him. I could hardly walk. Everyday I would take Henry down to our duck camp and train and play with him. I saw stuff in this dog that I never saw before. He would go into places and find dummies that other dogs would never even try. Henry became the best hunting dog in my area for many many years. He was my best friend ever. And I know I was his. He got me through so much more then a day of hunting. He loved my kids and everyone that crossed his path. Rest in peace buddy. Its been many years you been gone. But every duck season I think of you first. There so much more to tell about this Dog. But I would have to write for days. I know you all have a story like this. Please share.
Thanks
