Disappointed

Disappointed that there's been no mention of what happened Dec. 7, 1941 on this forum. So soon we forget.

No, I didn't forget. I just didn't put it up here. Thanks for doing it.

It's one of those dates that I won't ever forget and hope the country doesn't either. The ultimate sacrifice was given by so many that day and the days, months and years that followed. We can't possibly honor them enough.

Thank you and all those who have served our country.
It's surprising how many in this country have forgotten 9-11-01 not to mention 12-07-41. I doubt as many forgot around here as it might seem. I even thought of you this morning while watching some shows about the attack and the days that followed.

I recently had an experience that has been cause for a lot of reflection on my part:

As a policeman I get to meet segments of our society that I probably would not associate with otherwise. Such was the case when I met a young woman on a traffic stop. She had no I.D. so I asked for her date of birth. She told me that she was born on December 7th. My partner, hearing the date commented that she was born on Pearl Harbor Day. With all seriousness and honesty she looked at him and said, "Whats that".

We didn't bother to explain.

You mentioned it Jim. My wife's birthday was yesterday and her dad always called her his Pearl Harbor baby. I watched several shows today featuring some guys that were serving when it occurred. It seems the media plays less and less each year about it. It will never be forgotten by me.

I remember that Sunday afternoon after church we were driving my dad was listening to the car radio and they announced the bombing of Pearl Harbor and again in 1950 I was on a ship bound for Korea we stopped across from the battleship AZ you could see oil bubbles rising up even then and I listened to taps being played and the flag being lowered brought tears to my eyes. That was just the beginning for a young 18 yr old going to a strange land to protect other from losing there freedom it was 45 yrs later I got a thank you from some Korean that remembered us for being there and then several yrs later a man walked up to be and ask if that was my pick up and I said yes and he said to me thank you for serving. He looked at my licence plate which say disable vet. So yes I remember all those that gave of them self so we could have a better world in which to live and the work is not over

Thought of you and others.Didn't post ,like others.Called a close friend that I served with to get his rememberence of the two hours that Pearl Harbor was attacked, but he must have been out of town.I remember that Sunday well.Spent most of the day watching the History channel.God bless all that are serving, and have served, this great Country.

Jim It sure galvanized the country. When I was young people would still tell when and where they heard the news. My uncle Erinar came to our farm after chores and told my dad. We didn't have electricity or a radio. Their brother was at Pearl Harbor. It was months before they found out he was OK He had left Pearl at midnight on a destroyer.
Thoughts go out to all the veterans to served during that conflict and many thanks

I knew what yesterday was, but I wasn't online yesterday at all. Down with a migraine, and then had chores around the house. By the time I finished, it was basically time for bed.

I was sitting at an office staff meeting on a December 7th a couple years ago, and when I mentioned Pearl Harbor, several of the people there said, "huh?". I guess they read about it in high school, but it was back far enough that it didn't matter.

Hell, there are people who don't even acknowledge 9-11-01, either, and that was very recent.

67 years has a way of dulling the edge on collective memory.

Jim, I didn't forget by any means. Just didn't post anything about it. Actually it was my mother in laws birthday yesterday so I always remembered that two wars were started on Dec 7 ;-). I hope we don't ever forget the lessons of the past although it seems we are.

That's pretty special--good for you grandaughter! After missing out on opening of bow deer, duck opening and then rifle opening I'm finally will get some hunting in. I'm headed for my son's cabin for anterless deer hunting this weekend---that is if the weather allows me to. We're getting hammered with snow right now. It looks like a long winter here in Wisconsin.

Good for you Jim, I'm glad you are on the mend. Just take it easy and let the deer come to you (sounds good anyway hehe).
