DIY video on "How to make home made grass mats"

This is a great project
When I was much younger and actually had free time I used to make my own mats similar to this one. I copied the one from Zack Taylor's book "Successful Waterfowling"
Using natural marsh grass they blend perfectly and last much longer than the commercial mats,
And FREE
Hey John see you at the duckboat show this year?

Pretty slick. One concern is to use only native grass species, to avoid transporting invasive weed seeds into new areas. Not sure where this video was shot, but canary grass is an invasive species of concern in my area.

I think I'll gather enough rice to make one of these when I take my boat down to grass it up next week.

Great point! Many a marsh in the NE are now overun because of stupid decisions!

John,

Thanks so much for sharing this info. I've been trying to learn how to construct those mats. This looks like just the ticket.

If you go this route, grab a couple Rustoleum matte clear spray cans. Spray the finished grass matte down on both sides. You will get a little extra mileage out of them, as well as minimizing mold and mildew growth on them.

Funny, we followed the Zack Taylor path as well...
