Doc, they were claiming that Paducah was pretty much ground zero for the ice storm. Lots of film of trees collapsing under the load. Y'all OK?
Tried to call you last evening, Rick, but it rang over to messaging right away. They were saying that Little Rock was going to catch it yesterday. Hope it's not because the service is snotty with the crappy weather.

Hope everyone down there is doing OK. Well, I guess if you got problems, you probably can't see this.

Bill I will reply for Steve right now....

Steve's thoughts vigarously through me: Fucx, Holy Shix, there are trees falling fucxing everywhere! I spoke with him last night on the phone...While he was standing on the front porch all he heard was limbs and trees crashing to the ground...The sound reminded him of guns shots...I have not been in contact with either my girlfriend or other family members in the last 15 hours...Phone service ended around 8:00 p.m. last night with power out in most, if not all of the City of Paducah and surrounding counties...Some history about that region as you may know...If it snows a 1/2" inch the city pretty much shuts down...The last I spoke with my girlfriend there was around 1 1/2 to 2" of ice on the ground...Compound that with the fact that the region doesn't have the resources of reacting to heavy winter conditions and you have a frozen tundra until the weather warms up again...Even if the region could react to heavy winter conditions there is no region that can handle that much ice...We had the same conditions here in Fort Wayne, IN about 5 weeks ago and 160,000 people were without power for almost 3 days with some not having power for up to 7 days...The last time I spoke to my father whom was throwing a Ice Party at his place, with all his neighbors under candle light and a kerosene heater with the windows open, he told me to look at the bright side; Less mosquitos this year in the spring and summer...I guess you have to have some wits about you when that occurrs...I am heading down Friday afternoon to help with limbs and stuff for family and friends...Unless Steve is at work or his power comes on within the next day I doubt he will be responding to email or checking out his favorite website...The last time Paducah had a winter storm of this magnitude I was 3 years of age (30 years ago)....

Kristan Sacharnoski

I hope all you guys in that strip through the middle are fairing well in the ice storm.
My sister in northern Arkansas has been staying connected via her IPhone and some of the pictures are scary. They lost a lot of big branches during the night.

Kristian,

let Doc and Rick know we are thinking of them.

I read that and thought WOW ! THATS SOME SERIOUS STUFF !!! man thats tough to take in all at once.....seriously, you have a girlfriend?

Everything is right as rain in Little Rock and points south. Duck season ended, and wasn't as good as I had hoped, but I have enough birds in the freezer to eat gumbo a few times, and everyone went out and came home safely, so it was a good year.

We dodged the bullet, but everything north of us got hammered.

I was actually in Owensboro, Kentucky on Sunday night and Monday until lunch. Drove back on Monday, praying I wouldn't run into the front end of it as it rolled over everything.

Sorry to not answer your call; work is really hectic right now. When I'm not here, I'm at home eating and sleeping.

Glad you're just offline for a bit, of your own volition. Shortens the "worry about the guys" list. Drop me a line some time when you get free. Had a pretty good end to the season and looking for a good home for some geese. Also, have a line on an Eastern Shore hunting club membership for next year. Perhaps we can commence trade talks........

Spoke w/ a friend on the jonesboro ar fire dept last night. they had between 60 and 70 calls the night before, from trees pulling meters off houses and catching fire, to transformers blowing and starting fires. Some people will be without power for up to 2 weeks is the word right now. My boss's wife works for a cell tower company, and they had them on call for memphis.. when we didnt get slammed, they thought great. Nope they sent the whole mess of them to jonesboro, where only 3 out of 12 towers where up! Only big deal here in memphis is, they decided to have school at 3am yesterday morning, and the snow/sleet/ice hit at 5. so they said yes to school, then no. Some buses had already rolled and where picking up kids when they said no. Hate to be the one to pull the plug on school, seems its a losing propostion as often as not! travis

How the hell are ya?!

Did you do any good this season? Mine was up and down, but since we had 4 deer in the freezer, I wasn't quite so worried about filling it with ducks.

We need a get-together over in Memphis this spring just to trade lies...cook food, drink beer...

Hey, Goosebruce!
Nice to know you're still around here once in a while. How're ya doing? Last I heard, you were going under the knife. Hope it went well. Never heard anything to the contrary, so I trust it did.
Dunk got his Seasoned and JH and I'm no longer training him. I'm in MD and he's in AL, most of the time. Had to move up here for work.
Rick, if you and Goosebruce can get it together, let me know. I'll try to make it was well. Miss the parking lot food and good times.

We just got power at 1:00 am this morning. My parents still don't have power. Word in surrounding counties is that power won't be up for close to another two weeks. It is incredible how much damage has been done. Tree damage equivalent to a tornado, except on a much larger scale. Bad news: ice is still on the trees and we will continue to have freezing temps, so no melting for awhile...

Land line phone service is still out. Only Verizon had cell service. I am on call for this weekend and both ERs have my cell phone to contact for emergencies. The hospital employees have worked day and night in this difficult time. Tree service crews and utility crews are also working non stop. We are getting help from out of state crews as well. It will take awhile to clean up from this one...

Best,
Steve
