Dodger Snaps installed and Canvas painted!

Wow... very nice work, I am going to have to show these pics to the guy who is making my spray dodger, that design might work on my boat. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right?

You mentioned painting in your post.... are you going to paint the dodger as well? Yes, it looked similar to Dave Clark's deluxe dodger, still... very nice work. I like how you left the left and right sides more open so you can see more.

Dave,
Great job....looks real nice. It looks like you lowered the height from your oringinhal design. What is the height of you middle support bar?

You have done a nice job on that dodger and moma did a great job on sowing it up, it looks fantastic, when you are sat in the boat can you see over the dodger, or have you got to stand. Also take into account I said dodger and not old codger HeHeHe.
Take care and God Bless

Its all about Building that Bond.

Zane, the front tube is 15" above the deck, and the back hoop is 22 inches above the deck. When I sit on the boat sushion, the canvas is just above my head.

Eddie, sitting on the back deck I can easily see over the dodger. If kneeling in the cockpit I can too. If it got nasty enough to have to sit on the floor, I can drop the top loop down and then the canvas is only 15" above the deck. The bow will be higher than the dodger in my field of view I suspect.

Got the canvas painted, and back on the boat. Also painted the cockpit skirt too. I used fiberglass electric fence rods for the stiffeners in the skirt. 99 cents each at Tractor Supply!

Dave,

You've done a great job with the boat. You should be proud. Bet you can't wait to get her out. Best of luck this season and please post some pics on the water.

The project is now complete. Go christen it with a few totally surprised ducks. I have enjoyed every step of the process. Thanks for sharing your journey every step of the reconstruction. You thought through every step and considered your options at every decision point.

I do have one question about your dodger. Why did you decided to put the loose ends of the support straps at the top? When lying in your hide, it seems to me that they'll be distracting as they blow in the breeze.

Humm, I had not thought of that Brad. I assembled it that way because I pull back on the top hoop while I pull the webbing tab to snug it, but I could just as easily attach the straps the opposite, they are just snap hooked on to a couple strap eyes. While hunting I may not need them at all, I guess it depends on how much weight the wet grass will be on the roof. When I installed them my hope/thought was that I could pull it tight enough not to need the support post on the first hoop, but there is not enough angle to use the straps that way.

I also had planned to add a small piece of velcro to the straps so that they did not danggle like they do now.... the first couple hunts will be sea trials anyway, I expect to make changes.

Thanks, Dave

Now, the next pictures you post, I want to see a black duck, mallards, brant, and a greenwing teal sprawled out over the back deck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd like to make one suggestion/consideration. You may want to paint the inside of your spray shield a lighter shade of brown that you did the front. As birds approach your stern, they may see a "Black Hole". I realize it is small once you are grassed up, but it does give the birds something to look at.

Congrats!!!

Best,
Steve
