If sharks eat diver ducks? I realize this sounds stupid but me and my cousin were talking yesterday on the phone and this came up. When the birds get down here they raft up in the thousands and it would be an easy meal for a shark. I cant believe how much time I've waisted thinking about this so I thought I should consult the experts. It seams with all the time ya'll have spent on the water someone may have seen this firsthand? I realize sharks migrate some but here the water is still in the 60s in the winter so I figure that would be warm enough for a shark? I may be way off. What do you guys think?

Well, no sharks are present here in Lake Erie. I know muskies and snappers will take young ducks though. I can't tell ya if a shark does or not.

Thanks Steve, thats actually what sparked the conversation. When I was a kid we went to Northern Wisconsin on Vacation and my dad would wait till we were swimming to remind us of the killer Musky. I figured if a muskie would target a duck why wouldnt a shark. I've just never heard of it since I've lived here. Someone has surely seen it happen.

John a shark will take anything, I saw a film where they took young Albertros,s off the surface of the water if they can do that its possible they could
take ducks. A shark was caught in Astralia and when they opened it up, it had a car registeration plate inside it. Just as a afterthought I wonder if the
Astralian goverment tried to impose a road tax on it.HeHeHe.
take care
Eddie.

By way of anecdote: While chunking for bluefin off the MA coast (while a nearby dragger hauled back and culled waste-catch), we watched a blue shark go after a feeding seagull as it sat on the water. However, this was the only time in 10 years of fishing that we ever saw such a site.

Thank you for the replies. I guess if they will eat a gull they would eat a duck. Thanks again for entertaining my stupid question. If I said there was some kind of deep thought behind it I would be lying! Just curious

I'm told that any surface feeder if large enough will take ducklings certainly. One of the favorite foods of the Largemouth Bass is baby birds (I've seen that). Read somewhere about large Pike taking adult ducks (might have been in DU magazine some time ago). I imagine sharks get quite a few sea ducks and gulls etc.

I agree we have too much time on our hands if we are thinking about this topic..

Best,
Harry

During teal season when the gators are still thick, it is pretty normal to lose a teal or two to them every hunt. If you dont get to them quickly and they are still moving, the gators start heading that way. I had one try to eat a decoy once too, spit it out!
During regular duck season, it is normally too cold in Mobile for the gators to be out. But I woudl imagine if they eats the coots that hang on too long.
