Dog nuetering

I have a Black Lab Pup that I would like to have nuetered when he turns 6 months old - thing is that this is about two and a half weeks before he goes off to boot camp for one month of gun dog training. I'm looking for personal experiences as to how long it took your dog to recover from this procedure. I have heard everything from 3 days to two weeks. Waiting till his training is over is an option but I'd like to get it done before he goes as long as he will be fully recovered by then.
Any opinions?

Both of my dogs recoverd pretty quickly. With my current CBR, I was worried about this as well but my wife really wanted it done ASAP. He had it done during the split of the season and was fine after a week. I took it easy on him but he really only showed the effects for a few days. I think it is good to make them take it easy, if you can, till you are sure.
They will show alot of get up and go before they should be allowed to go all out.

I think you will be fine. Unless something is odd with the neuter, my normal neuters have a 1 inch incision. You could look at neutering alittle earlier to allow for more time before training. I usually tell folks to fix at 6 months, but we do early spays/neuters for the local shelter at 6 weeks of age. Only thing easier than a dog neuter is a cat neuter! Shouldn't be a big deal for you boy.

I think I'll go with Brian's advice and try to schedule things a week before he turns 6 months. That will give him 3.5 weeks before 'boot camp' which sounds like plenty of time to make a full recovery. I also appreciate the thought about making the dog take it easy longer than he thinks he needs to - that made alot of sense to me.
