Dog Question?

The vest I put on my dog has rubbed the inside of his front legs (arm pits) raw.. Is there any thing I should put on this? medication? I got him a new vest this year, I guess I need to cut away some of the material so it doesn't rub. He keeps licking it and I am worried it might get worse.

There are some vets that post on here, but in the mean time I'll back you up on trimming the vest so it doesn't rub. Also we keep a spray called Gentocin in our kit for situations like that. Goldens are prone to "hot spots" that appear out of nowhere, and the dogs lick them until all hair is gone and an infection occurs. The Gentocin appears to help that. Again I hesitate to give out Vet advise since I don't even play one on TV. Hopefully one of our dog doctors will show up shortly.

you can cover the affected area with bag balm,my vet always recommends it to me with any abrasion my dog gets,Also trim the vest if you try to hunt him like that with the vest rubbing it can get worse and maybe even infected

Pete,
I agree with John on trimming and Gentocin spray. The Gentocin spray has an antibiotic, cortisone, and drying agents to help out "hot spots". The moist dermatits is common behind the fore legs.

Disclaimer: I ain't looking at your dog, so I can't tell for sure from Alabama. Heck, most of the time when I AM looking at the dog, I still can't tell for sure, so go figure! Ha. Ha.
