dogs

a guy showed up at our training group with one once. it was a puppy so i can't say whether it turned into a good hunting dog or not. the owner was a j.o. so i would guess probably not.

Bill,

A buddy has one that I think must be about 10 years old now. Nice dog, excellent nose, knows what his job is and does it.

Where is the pup coming from - what breeder? I know a guy here in MA who is probably the authority on SMLs.

I hav never heard of that breed. I looked it up. Those dogs look like upland dogs. I bet they are just the thing on quail or pheasants???? I think I have seen them and not known what they were. I used to have Spaniels. Good buddies.

They are great upland dogs. I did a lot of research on this breed a few years ago and talked with a local guy here in MA who is one of the founders of the US line of SMLs. I was very close to getting a pup about 7 or 8 years back. Great field dogs and they are killer on pheasant, grouse, quail, etc. They make great early season duck dogs, but don't fair that well in the colder winter temps.

Paul Jensen is the guy to talk to about this breed. He knows his stuff.

I hear that there are 2 different types,

The big ones 50 - 75 lbs

and the smaller ones.

Alex is part Munsterlander. (mostly in the stern).

And most of the training

was him training me.
