Double banded mallard this AM.

I wish I could say it was mine but it isn't. Mac and Marcus came out with me this morning to pass shoot some ducks in the rain. Marcus is the rookie at shotgunning, but managed to hit one lonely mallard which ended up having a band on each leg. The return band info said it was tagged in 2008 near Bellingham, and the other one was a $100 reward band! What a lucky kid! I have never even seen a reward band, and that's only Marcus' third duck of his life.

Lots of birds around already, good to see. I think its going to be a good year.

Golly Mike,

Don't start that already, It's still summer down here. Now you got me thinking about duck season. IF and I mean if, I ever got a reward band I'm not sure if I send it in or just keep the band as my reward.

We had summer on the 3rd weekend in July, since then its been cold and rainy. : )

Its full on fall here these days, snow in the hills, colors at tree line. I saw a nice white tipped bull elk the other day with a big harem, and word on the street is that a few moose are coming to bull grunts. I saw a 67"er come off a plane yesterday. Mac and I cut up his ribs today and he had three broken ones, so someone is feeling saucy out there. I would like to see the bull that kicked his butt.

You gonna get out lots this year Dave?

Was lucky enough in 2003 to take a black duck with a $100 reward band. Called in the number and about a month latter the check was in the mail box. Haven't shot one since. My one and only band had an expiration date of 2006. I guess that can be the only down side to shooting a double banded bird with the reward band. Wonder if it is based on finances more than science.

Very neat Mike! Banded only a stones throw from the farm!

I wonder if they banded it if they caught it spring time in Wa then it did it's normal migration north.

Way to go, Marcus. Thanks for the report, Mike. It is good to get some duck hunting news on the website. Continued success!
