Drones

Yeah, sure seems like it. I use mine with a small cheap tablet that has no personal data on it, and only rarely gets internet connectivity, that is DMZ'd from the rest of my WiFi network. I'm sure the drone, app, and cheap tablet all contain Chinese spyware.
The government is claiming that the DJI software sends back information to the Chinese and we are therefore mapping the whole of the US for them. Surveillance sort of stuff I guess.

I had one of the earlier DJI drones several years ago, before all the restrictions came into play. At that time, you could easily "program" the software to do essentially unguided trips. I live 1/2 mile from the ocean, and had a flight path for my drone to go over and grab photos/video of the ocean from various heights and vantage points to I could decide whether to run my small boat a mile down the waterway and out an inlet to fish. It was amazing technology, and so easy to use and automate, even then. I sold it on after abiut 9 months... I decided I didnt enjoy processing video and pictures enough, and also had read enough about China using such technology to gather intel that I felt funny about using it.
