Duck boat heaven...

Holy Cow! A collection of awesome duck hunting boats like that should be on display in a museum, or a hunting club, or the Wards. Wow, the history that's in that pole barn needs to be recorded before it's lost. Get that story Pat and let us hear the tale, please....

Pat! Thanks for the lesson and pictures. I can't wait to hear the rest of the story. Now, What is all that wood in your trailor for? HeHe.

Pat and Chuck,

Thanks for the info...I think I am probably going to go with a 10-12 foot pusher or punt paddle.

Pat, where these paddles solid white ash, or laminated?

Chuck

Great pics Pat. Poygan has been my family's home hunting grounds since 1971. Lots of waterfowling history & unique tools of the trade like the Poygan shell box. It was a famous Can lake for years. Including Lake Winneconne - the body of water measures 4 miles by 12 miles and only 10' max depth in the channel where the Steamboats ran from Oshkosh up to Tustin. It was always full of wild rice beds. My duck hunting mentor who will be 80 use to paddle & push pole skiffs just like the one on your truck out to these grass islands to gun the cans with his dad. They would have 3 bundles of wire grass - one staked between the two skiffs and the other two around the outside. His Mother would sell the ducks. There were plenty of cans until the mid 80s.

From Dan Brown...

I was sorting through some old posts and pulled this one up. This is a good one for some of our new forum members. Tim and I had a grand day visiting Bill Haese. Just saw Bill at the Oshkosh Decoy show this month. If you need handmade paddles or oars, Bill has the best and lots of them... Enjoy! Pat

Are you chicken Dave? HAHA!! women what do they know?

That is one nice collection of boats....just think of the possibilities. One for Sunday..one for Monday....hunt out of a different boat every couple of days....

Pat -
Pic #5 in post #3 the boat's bow reaches out of the picture. Who built it? Looks similar to a marsh boat by one of the name brand guys...

Thanks
Hank

What a great thread, Pat. You two had to be in hog heaven doing what you were doing! Looks like you you found some fantastic wood for carving decoys. Sure enjoyed seeing those pics.

Hank - That might be a Carstens skiff. I didn't turn it over to check it out. There were so many, we were dumbfounded. Someone needs to spend the day with Bill, take some note cards and tape and get all that information out of his head and on to each boat. There is a book in there somewhere. This place is a museum waiting to happen...

Thats a pretty amazing places. The little lady thinks I have a "problem", HA!! He should open his own museum.

It is all a matter of point of view. If you ask many wives, those pictures look like duck boat hell. According to my wife if I had that many boats, I WOULD be buried there.

thanks for bumping it TTT.

given enough time and space I have a feeling my garage would look like that, LOL.

Pat
