I will start by saying that I know it is not a sneak boat or home built wooden boat, but it has worked well for me. This is an Alumacraft Waterfowler 1650 hull with a 40hp, 2-stroke, tiller handle engine. Plenty of boat for my son and I to hunt puddle and diver ducks.
We have plans of changing boats in the future, potentially as early as next season. Each year we make some modifications based on what we learned the prior year. This year we have decided to get lower.
Here is the boat as it was hunted last year.

We learned that the top was too open, we were too exposed, and too tall.
We chopped off over 10" from the top of the blind, are now completely covered from the top. In years past we have stood up to shoot. Now we will have to sit and lean forward to shoot. The front part of the blind will be pushed forward to create a clear shooting lane. The greater coverage of bodies helps when hunting with a couple of 12 y.o. boys. They like to fidget, move around and eat. Plus, they just think it's cool to be in a fort on the water. But then, so do I, and I am a long way from 12 y.o.
Here is where we are now. A little more grassing and she will be ready for the season. We will have to cut some taller grasses just to break up the bulk of the outline. and straight lines across the top. Not sure what to think about the 3 gunning holes and the dog hole. They appear to get dark and I am not sure if that will pose a problem.

Let me know what you guys think. We have a little more work to do, then we will head out to shake out some bugs and find some tall grasses.
Can't wait.
