Here are pics from the recent launching of the duck camp. I wasn't there; had to work. My brother sent me these.

Should be at work getting the topside built next week. Will take some pics of that.

You better be at work to pay for all that equipment... WOW.... I have heard of building them on the water then floating them in at a flood tide.. But nothing with a crane.... John

Well, it's a tiller steer now, Dave. My lil brother tells me they drove it up and down the bayou, clocked it at 4.7 mph with the gps against the incoming tide.

That floating camp is ENORMOUS. The state is going to charge you property tax for it Ed!!!

You have to keep us posted on how it all works out for you. And please keep sending pics...

Wow! That is quite impressive. Almost looks like something the Government would build being that big and square. In your plan for the topside did you leave room for a stripper's pole :)

Egad, A strippers pole? Why no, Eric, I don't know what you've heard about some of the guy's duck camps and what kinda stuff goes on down here, especially a certain New Years Eve party off the Superior Canal? (keep it quiet if you have), but no stripper's pole in our camp by George....

Forgot this one, the maiden voyage:

Ed,
That is probably the coolest thing I have seen in a while. My wife says the reason we like duck hunting so much is that we get to return to our childhood games of "fort building". Well you sir have got one heck of a "fort" there. I would love to pictures of it set up and ya'll enjoying coffee on the deck with a sunrise in the background. Shawn

Ed,

That's impressive! It takes a spotter on the bow with a walkie talkie to send reports to the tillerman for course correction?...Like everybody else I can't wait to see it finished.

She's a biggin. Heck Ed, you could prolly lease that baby out in the off season as a barge?!

Ditto everyone else's comments on keeping the pics coming.

Ryan

That's the best pic yet! It's hilarious to see the two folding chairs up front.

Pictures don't lie... your duck camp is bigger than that barge! LOL

Ed,

That is going to be "sooooo sweeeeet" when it's finished! I have always wanted to build a floating duck camp/boat like that for use on Klamath Lake.

I can just see a couple sets of davits on the sides to hold a couple of BBSB'a while towing a 16' Garvey behind for supply runs amd hauling the 25 gallon propane tank, etc. What are the hull's dimentions?

Dave

Naw, you see that huge barge parked right next to it, floating 15 or something feet above the waterline! You could build a Holiday Inn on that. I think we figured we could support around 50,000 lbs half sunk with this thing. You can actually buy old barges around here, and if you can dry dock them and weld up some of the thin areas in the bottom, you've got a good camp base. There are all sorts of floating contraptions down in the the marsh around here. One day I'll have enough time, will go out, photograph them, talk to the owners and write a book about them. I imagine it's a unique situation, having a population of folks where most of the males can weld, where there are more boats than cars, and there's a lot of scrap steel around to be had at reasonable price or often for nothing. This one is just a baby compared to some of the monsters, often converted crew barges, people have made into camps.

Dave the camp dimensions are 52 x 24. If I remember right the cabin will be 36 x 18'. I understand the roof is already up on the cabin. Should have some cabin pics shortly. We've got less than 6 weeks to get her into shape for the big duck season.

That's gonna be impressive, Ed. Sure proves the old addage,"Ya can't hide money!!" hhehe
