Here is a picture of one of the eight silos I made with left over wood in my shop. Yukon Mike and Chuck were both talking about this in an earlier Blog...I think their idea was trying to put a canvas top over this style of design that would fold into position expanding the canvas and making a 3D bird...This was just made using two hinges on one side and a hook and eyelet on the opposite side. They work great as filler decoys...Plus they fold down flat when stored...You may notice the paint job is simple...That is all I was looking for when I made these decoys...Simple...

Ya that's it Super K. There was a redhead at Westlake like that too. Have you used yours yet? Any amendments you'd recommend?

Neat idea, what type of wood is that, plywood or solid?
I need to add bluebills, may be a good option with all the old wood I have laying around.

Each Silo was made out of a solid 1" pine...The same pine I use for bottom boards when I make bottom boards..I first cut the shape of the side view of the body out...Laid it down on center on the board and tried to draw as wide of a base for the silo...Brush linseed oil on both pieces and let dry....Assemble with hinges, add hook to hold body up, add 1" x 2" keel (Linseed as well), and paint...I painted all mine as black ducks...

Very slick, Kristan. Thanks!

Ol' Harker gave some ideas about relief carved sillies a few years back. He too recommended one-inch material although I recall that he thought glued boards might better prevent warping issues.

I think I just figured out how my swan decoy is going to be made for next season. I was always thinking silo since they take up so much room in the boat. We have a lot of high ducks and I was concerned that the downward view would not look "right" with a silo.

Now I have a solution, or at least a basis for a FUD style decoy.
