Duck Water boats?

My 2005 19' Duckwrangler(Now Duckwater) has no CC tag anywhere. How does a manufacturer get around this? Would this mean that I cannot LEGALY resell my boat?

Charlie,

I believe it's dictated by the individual states. Here in Illinois, home builts as of 2008 get inspected by the local dnr and you send an inspection document to the state which inturn provides you with a HIN number you have to attach to the boat.

I had an old ranger boat that hadn't had the sticker in a long time. You could see where it had been and since I had a title there was no problem when it was time to sell. Coast Guard never asked about the sticker rather thay wanted to see the registration which I always carry in the boat.

I was sort of wondering of the owner of duckwater might be trying to slip these in under some grey area of regulations like for example claiming that they are essentially backyard built boats? For the money you'd hope they did the testing and you got a sticker...

EXACTLY, To late for me I guess!!!!

I am more than satisfied by the responses to my question....

This company seems to be overshadowed by its fly-by-night sketchy antics. I really appreciate all the replies.

It's funny you should say that. One of my hunting buddys asked me if the guy building these boats was building them in his "Garage", the first time he saw my Apache LOL!!!

That's funny Charlie. I'm a finish carpenter/cabinet builder by trade and my hunting buddies know I couldn't build anything that crude LOL!!!

I've lusted after a Bankes Freedom since standing on the gunnel with 3 others on the proto type in their boathouse.Michael gave me a hell of a deal on it but I couldn't swing it then..(note to self...kick yer ass again). We piled a bunch of guys in it and Ky Krause even danced on the back corner of it...the thing just wouldn't move. It is a dry ride in nasty seas too. The Goliath is more of the same.

I remember that night! ;) That impressed me just as much and a Freedom has been tops of my want list ever since.

Just a little more info on the USCG testing:

The Coast Guard boat testing program is a voluntary program. Boat manufacturers are not required to submit their boats to the Coast Guard for compliance testing. They are, however, required to certify that their boats meet Coast Guard standards. Testing at the Coast Guard testing facility is free. Some boat manufacturers do their own testing or use mathematical formulas to take into account all of the variables in boat and hull design. If builders self-certify the boats, they cannot use the Coast Guard name on the boat's capacity label. The absolute best way to assure compliance with the standards is to have the Coast Guard do the testing and certification. This removes all doubt. The Coast Guard does enforce these regulations and has compliance officers who visit the boat manufacturers on a regular basis. They also buy boats on the open market and test them. If they do not meet the standards, action will be taken.

Bankes all the way. Here's a short video clip from a particulary snotty day in our Goliath this past season. 30 kt+ wind, 3-4 footers all day with the occasional 5 coming through. Some of them were almost eye level and we were all as comfy as can be and killed a 4-man limit of scoters. We don't get a swell on the Chesapeake Bay...it's a close, steep chop. Having had the Goliath for a couple seasons, I wouldn't own anything else. Ice, rough conditions, shallow water....Bankes boats are made for this stuff.

I'm not going to name any names (ahem...sikorski), but that ugly guy in the middle with his feet propped up pulled off some seriously good shots that day.

And, for those of you that doubt Bankes fiberglass....we had a gun accidentally discharge while laying in the gun slot of a Bankes Revolution layout boat. A POINT BLANK 12 guage blast barely even put a hole in the fiberglass and we hunted out of if the rest of the day.
