Duck Wrangler/Duck Water boats

someone copy paste it over here. I haven't gone to that site for a very specific reason.

Don't drag that trash over here...nothing positive ever comes of such endevors

Dennis
sorry to hear about your problem. I know of many DW owners here in Pennsylvania that had many nightmares with their boats on receiving them on delievery.

Well i have searced that site high and low and that thread is no where to be found. Oh well on to the next topic of interest.

The Duck Wrangler only carried a 5 yr warrenty not a 15. Sorry your having trouble with your boat but maybe you should just fix it and move on. This kind of thread does no one any good especially when the facts are not correct and no one has the whole story.

I would disagree Drew. As long as these threads stay civil I think they are very good. It may sound cliche, but I do believe that in most of these types of cases, the truth is somewhere in the middle. And at the end of the day, It does help people decide who they may want to do business with in the future and what they may want to look for if they ever buy a used boat of this type. Or what the fix is...

I see your point ryan, but the thread is still garbage because the facts aren't straight and nobody is getting the other side of the story. In order to get to "The Middle" as you say those are a must to make a good informed decision.

Guys I have a 17' Fiberglass Duck Wrangler, a Steve Hoover boat built in 2001 by Kenny i believe. The boat is absolutely awesome, a brick s%$^ house. The floor is tight, the shoe box is glassed from the inside, real sweet. I have owned a ton of boats and wanted to go bigger. Needed a open water scoter boat and looked for this boat in particular. The blind is made of the best hardware out there. Just tought I would put my two cents in. I know there are a few Duck wrangler lemons out there, but I will never give up mine
FYI had a Hight Tec (great 14' boat) hawk 14, TDB 14 (CRAP !!!) bought the new 14 classic, what a nightmare you could go surfing on the deck.

I have a 17' Duck Wrangler as well, made in 2002 and it doesn't owe me anything. It's taken a pounding a few times in nasty weather where we shouldn't have been, other than the walk-on bow which throws buckets of water in your face it's very seaworthy and tight. As Mark Purack said the boat is real solid, I bet in large measure because of the foam below the floor. I don't have any penetrations through the floor but the photos of the saturated foam have me thinking.

I was sure that the glass boats didnt have a 15 year warranty.

Sounds like the warranty has expired and from what I have read here and on other sites it sounds like Hoover offered an option to use an AL hull. It may not be the fix you were looking for but it sure sounds like he was trying to at least offer a solution.

I know owners of Lunds have had problems with rivets and Lund wasnt willing to do a thing to help out. You may or may not like Hoovers boats but it sure sounds like he was trying to offer a solution.

Best of luck.

I too have no dog in this fight, but #1 Duck Wranger is no longer a company... just because some from the old company opened a company in the same industry, there is no legal obligation to honor any warrenty from the defunct company. I do understand why people may think Steve should be doing something...but why...

#2 (assuming this is a fact) that the DW had a 5 year warrently on the hull.... Why would any manufacturer do anything about the hull? Whether they were still in business or not.

Duck Wrangler and Duck Water are the same company; all the owner did was file a name change with the Secretary of State here in Ohio.

Allright I have been ask not to let this die on the negative. And I think that is only right. So I will try to get some pics out of how we repaired this and this will be my final word on this. What we did is we pulled out the foam and then wrapped new foam in shrink wrap. We ran the foam from bow to stern (3) rows.We installed a 8' sheet of marine grade plywood & put 3 coats of resin on both sides. Screwed a strip of aluminum( yes it was a piece we cut out of the scrap) to the edge to install the next piece. We installed the second piece of plywood and srewed it down. We then screwed this all around to the lip we left when we cut the floor. We are installing a second bilge under the floor. With the foam being wrapped any water that gets in will go to the back of the boat and we can get it out. That is the short of it. I will try and get the pics out ASAP.

I've got a funny feeling that the damage was well underway during the five year warranty period. If only he had cut into the floor a year ago.

Eric

Is just a name change, or a new company? Either way it appears the rig is out of warrenty?
Duck Wrangler Boats Inc. was not shut down and a new company incorporated under the name Duck Water Boats. It was a name change only, under the original articles of incorporation.

Here are the photos of Dennis's repair in progress as described in his last post:

Maybe the boat wasnt filled with water. I think it was so heavy because of the two red lally collums under the floor :)

There are always two sides to every story. The honest truth is a tried to appease Dennis at no luck. He originally told me that his boat was the best and he had an engineer in the boat and he was very impressed. He later told me that his floor was soft, so I brought the boat back and reinforce the floor with .190 guage aluminum. He approved the repair and I thought all was well. He contacted me again to complain about the floor. I told him that I would take his boat and put an aluminum hull under at no cost. He told me that he was not interested. I had not heard from him till recently. I told him that his warranty had ran out and I offered solutions in the past. He became irate and told me that he would sue me. I told him to do what he haves to do.

He then contacted me and told me that he was going to repair his floor. I inquired of the price and he told me $3,100. I thought that the price was a bit steep. I am sorry that Dennis had an issue, but I also wonder why he had the issue and 400 boat owners have never had the issue. We achieved an L over 98 deflection rating which was phenomenal in the industry. We have a lot of happy owners that we still keep in touch with. I have been in this business for close to 16 years now. I have been providing waterfowlers with boats of all sizes in both glass and aluminum with a great track record. In any business you will have some customers that you can't please, but I will always stand behind my warranty of our workmanship.

I feel much better of the quality and finish of our new aluminum boats. We have done our best to make them look like a fiberglass boats. We have more guides running our boats than any other company. We are constantly improving our design and structure. We recently changed our hull which made the boats faster and easier to turn. We are currently building a Ocean 21 which will be presented to U.S.C.G. for their testing, so we must be doing something right despite my fan clubs beliefs.

We changed our name to Duck Water for one reason and only one reason. I think it is easy to figure out why we dropped the Wrangler name.

I guess that I will address some of my glee club members comments

Jeremy, You started out with a Duck Wrangler 17 and moved to a Bankes boat. I don't care if you beat that drum, but your lies about guys you know had trouble is wrong. I talk with those guys all the time and they all have expressed that they would like to move up in size. Brian had a transom issue, which we have since changed the design. He had it repaired and I sent him a check.

Dewayne (Lowell) Knight, You know that you take every opportunity to bash me. You posted this on your own site and those guys ripped you apart. I personally found it to be humorous. You think that you know so much about my business. I would suggest that you focus on finding a job that you can keep without getting fired. The real truth that you take stabs at me is because I didn't bow down to you and advertise on your site. The other reason is that I donated a boat to Waterfowl Boot Camp right after you was kicked off the committee. The best was the Rance slide.

Eric P. Man, I was with you in the beginning and I am not sure what happen to our friendship. I remember having great phone conversations and then when the Oaks thing went down it was all finished. You are quick to cast judgment against me, which is fine. If you would like for me to flip you some money for a sponsorship, just send me your address.

Now, I need to move on and get 16 more boats finished before the end of the year, so I can start on the backlog for next year already. We are a strong company and we will be around even after I am dead. I have a 17 year old son that will be taking Business Management, so he will be ready to take over the ship in the near future. You can expect to see some changes in our manufacturing process in the near future.

Best of Gunning,

Steve Hoover

Pres. of Duck Water Boats, Inc.

If I could have built a boat, I would have built what I got from Steve.

I didn't have the time or the skill or the tools to do so.
Steve put it all together and I like what I got.

Good for you for standing up for yourself Steve, I love the Duckbomber you built for me, use it for fishing and hunting and busting logs out of wing dams to cut up for firewood.

A serrated edge on the ice breaker makes it well suited for plowing into log jams and freeing up good cordwood to be ushered ashore.

She's been a top notch boat and I plan on using her as much as possible in the next season or so.

Thanks for making a boat that I'd bet my life on.
