Hello All,
Spring has arrived to the Lake Geneva region over here in Switzerland and the weather is particularly ducky - rainy, grey skies, with the occasional bitter wind. Ducks flying all over the place. I'm dying over here without any access to my Estuary and/or Aquapod which remain in storage in North America. It certainly was a treat to be able to go hunting during a short business trip to NJ in the fall, but I'm really feeling the need to ride/feel/look at duckboats! The more classic the better!
I'm reminded of the times when I first started duck hunting in my teens - we didn't have a boat; just waders. We drove ~1.5 hours from Montreal to St-Anne-de-Sorel, situated at the end of a long thin peninsula that extended into a large swamp, that had a river going through it, into Lake St. Pierre. We each slung a pair a decoys over our shoulders and waded into the swamp to pass shoot, and, if we were lucky, decoy some ducks. On the way home, we would sometimes see these ducksboats covered in grass and I was awestruck that these things existed, seemingly out of reach for a city-boy with practically-minded parents. My hunting partner, an old childhood friend of my father's, was far too practical, and poor, to even consider buying or building a duckboat. Although he did talk about getting a canoe at one point, and we would joke about buying one of those small inflatable boats! I have since scrimped and saved and made my way through the world, picking up what little bits of quality hunting stuff I could afford and, at some point, became the duck hunter I wanted to be; although there is always room for improvment and growth (still haven't had the opportunity to get a retirever and train it, but it is always in my thoughts - once my wife's elderly cats pass away).
I just saw someone else in my office building that has a sailing calendar that he made online using his own pictures, snd some he's received from friends, and I hit on this idea to ask all you reputable fellow duckboat builders/lovers out there if you wouldn't mind sending me the best hi-res picture of your duckboat, so that I can make my own calendar for my office! This is not for sale, or for distribution to others, just to slake my personal craving for duckboats...
I also thought it might be a good way to raise money for the site (hint, hint) - if someone were to take this on as a fundraising opportunity!
If you don't mind sending me a picture, I would greatly appreciate it. Please email me at acstoncsi@yahoo.com.
Sincerely
Anthony
