Ducks, Fish & Crabs

Got out scouting this morning. Found a pile of gadwalls and surprisingly, a mess of divers.
And they happened to be sitting on my opening day spot. Stuck my blind as flocks of gadwalls flew around, that soft quack-quack of hen gadwalls is a sure sign that autumn has truly arrived!

Seems like a lot of ducks have shown up this week. And coot. With the full moon and a cold front coming, we should have a pretty good opener.
Followed up with fishing trip, caught a pile of ground mullet (southern kingfish, Menticirrhus americanus ) and white seatrout (Cynoscion arenarius). And some huge blue crabs. Left them biting, could have filled the cooler with both.
Wasn't really setup to fish for crabs, plan to go back next weekend with my hand-lines & crab net.

Glad you're seeing ducks Carl. Good luck with the opener. The crabs and fish remind me of Tin Top. Still one of our favorite spots. With out your tip we never would have found it.

No fall up here I was walking around in shorts and flip flops watching 4-6 footers crash on my dive spots. Visibility was <1ft.

No hunting on Sunday, not many birds any way.

Good luck on your opener, hopefully it will be better than mine.

Saw a grey duck yesterday in one of my local haunts. I've only ever shot one hen years ago and have since wanted a nice drake for the wall. Hope some more come in with this cooler weather coming!

Carl, all of that sounds darn exciting to me. Best of luck when the duck opener comes. I like what you said about the hen gadwalls.

I will hope that my Mule gets repaired this week--maybe on Tuesday??
Drive belt and clutches before I can hunt and or cut wood. Its been 8 days already.

Man, that's awesome! I would love to come home from a day out on the marsh with ducks in the bag and fresh seafood in the cooler. What a great location that lets you do both!

Now that is a cast and blast I can be jealous of.

Quite certain it comes down to boredom of spending most of my time in the same geographic location, but crabs/mullet/sea trout sure sound a lot more fun than my typical walleye/crappie/perch :-)

The other one I get envious over is the Stripers on East Coast.

And you are correct on the coming birds..... you should have a good opener if the weather coming through the Upper Plains has any teeth to it.
