ducks, late goose season and northern visitors

LOVE THE HEN PINTAIL SHOT. I HAVE SEEN 3 SNOWY OWLS IN MY LIFE. WAS AMAZED EACH TIME. THEY DID NOT SEEM TO FEAR ME. ALMOST CURIOUS. LIKE WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT. BEAUTIFUL BIRDS.

Way to go, Sarge. Some fantastic shots and of course just want you to know what a super job you did on those snowy owls. What a capture!

Dick,

Nice set of pictures. I like all of them but especially the landscape/waterscape shot with the red bouy. That shot makes me think I should be out there on the water doing something, anything, just as long as I am out there.

Thanks for sharing.

Dang Al,

I have to up this time in the morning because in just a couple minutes I start my work shift. Whats your excuse, can't sleep? Hope you aches and pains arn't the problem.

I normally get up around 4AM, Dave. Today, I was up a touch earlier just getting ready for this morning's wood cutting in the bosque. Trying to get some wood stored up for next year. Chain saws are ready, plenty of oil and gas, so I'm good to go. Only problem is that I broke out the driver's side window in my F-250 and so driving over to my spot with the temps in the low 20s seems to be a touch on the cool side. Hope to have it fixed by Thurs.

SOme great shots there!

Love the pair of flying mallards, and the snowy owl shots are great also.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey Capt Brian - thanks, I will be in touch but need to get a hunter safety cert for RI, the one I got about 50 years ago is long gone.

Hi Tim - Thanks ! - I have been told that there are more down in this area this winter due to heavy food supply up north (lemmings) and more birds being hatched. They are pretty big birds and fairly shy from what I saw last weekend. I have also been told that some may have never seen a human till they got down here.......am hoping for a real good flight shot if I get another chance.

Dave - I don't know if you can see them, but there are 2 big plumes of sea smoke farther out on the right and left sides. The wind and tide were also honkin. Thanks -sarge

Nice owl shots Sarge. Don't worry about the pine needles they just add interest to the photo.

Thanks Russ - pretty funny, I have never had a chance to photo any kind of owl and got these on the same day...go figure !

Very nice pictures. Snowy owls are awesome. I guess this has been one of their biggest invasion years to the lower 48 states. There was a crazy boom of lemmings (main food in tundra) last summer and most pairs pulled off 5-6 young fledged (they normally only raise 1-3 young). This winter= no food and a mass movement south especially of young birds. One snowy even made it all the way to Hawaii (where it was killed due to its fondness to an airport and being a air collision risk)

The bottom owl is a Barred by the way.
