Does anyone have a Dudley ruddy duck pattern they would be willing to share? I want to carve a few for my spread this year .
Thank you.

I don't have a Dudley pattern, but I have one that is based on an older decoy. Send me an email if you're interested. The body is carved wrong, but that isn't the patterns fault.

Sorry I cannot help you - that's one of the truly iconic decoys - a great working bird and a great work of art. I always regret that I did not buy a Canvasback done in the Dudley style that I saw for sale - I think $70 - at the World Championships in the early 80s. Good luck in your hunt for a pattern.

All the best,

SJS

Joel Barber's book Wildfowl Decoys. Getcha a copy. Not only does it have pictures of 2 originals Mr. Barber acquired direct from Mr. Dudley but it has a documented story of Barber visiting Mr. Dudley to purchase them. Mr. Dudley repainted one back to his original paint pattern, the only known example of a Dudley ruddy decoy with an original paint pattern. Also, Barber, being an architect, blueprinted many classic decoys in the book. Enlarged, these make amazing patterns.

Enjoy! Pat

Pat hit the nail on the head, as I was going to say the same thing. Many of OLD Decoy books, are worth owning and reading. Build your library, and you build your knowledge, and appreciation of the life style that we enjoy and love.
