Dusky Canada decoy.

I've been working on a pair of these for a while now, and other than a few touch ups and scrape the eyes they are done. I may have gone too dark on the breast area transition, but looking back at the pictures I took of the geese me and Nick and Carl got in Juneau almost ten years ago, they were just really dark geese. So that's what I tried to paint.

I'll never get a crack at one this far inland I'm sure, but it was a fun project and when I get back to the coast to shoot again someday I'll chuck them out there.

Great Goose! I really like everything about it - posture, attitude, paint. I'm going to have to "borrow" a few of your ideas. That little detail on the chinstrap is especially sweet!

All the best,

Being somewhat of a dusky expert, i don't find any fault with your coloration. They are really chocolatey in coloration. I like your detail and style. Thats a sweet decoy.

My only comment is that if you shot that bird in Juneau then it probably is more likely a Vancouver goose than a dusky. But then we are really down in the goose poop.

I don't know as much about geese, or buttons on a webpage, as I thought. Thanks Brad, I do appreciate your expertise.

I'm going to have to go have a look on my old computer for pictures from that hunt in Juneau.

Thanks for the compliments guys, and Steve you borrow all you want.

Super cool Mike! Shot almost all the main subspecies of geese in the pacific flyway but never a dusky or Aleutian. Know where they are but have too many Oregon friends that I know what they go through. Jumping hoops and ID test.

You ever wanna sell one you know where to phone haha
