Early end to the season

This morning was a no go. We have had a couple days of single digit temps hovering around zero degrees. Being a wuss, I did not even bother attempting to go out those days.
Today the early temp was 19 degrees, so I headed out the door. I drove past the ramp I use the most, knowing it would be iced in. Arriving at the 2nd ramp, it too was iced up solid. Turned around, drove 30 miles downriver to a 3rd ramp. Much to my dismay, it was also frozen over. Not to be deterred, I back the trailer wheels out onto the ice until I had a hole open. Number one priority was to break enough of the ice, that I wasn't going to hook the trailer axel pulling forward. Once that was accomplished, I attempted to back in and push the ice away from the ramp using the trailer frame.
No dice, the ice was not budging. Frozen thick enough and far enough out, I could not get it to break away. Guess my duck season has ended one week early.

You beat me to it!
Tune up the auger and break out the jigging rod!

my hunting season ended a couple of days after it started. I went down to Maine to hunt grouse and woodcock. First day it rained heavily not too good. second day was great. I moved a lot of birds and shot a couple over my dog. third day I drove my new electric atv into a deep hole and broke my wrist. I was up in the mountains 2 hours from a doc. drove to hospital with a splint made from kindling and duct tape. three sessions in traction. and now in a hunter orange fiberglass cast. hoping to be able to fill a swan tag in January.lulu grouse.jpg

You may be the only person I know who reported a good day of upland bird hunting in Maine this year. Partridge, woodcock, or both? I assume that eventually flight woodcock landed some places in Maine, but have not heard much about people getting into them. Reports on resident woodcock and partridge were uniformly poor.

Get that arm healed up fast for swan season!
