East Coast Museums?

Steve, check out Smith's Master Index To Maritime Museums.
Let's you look up maritime museums by country and state.

Best - Paul

I volunteer from time to time at Tuckerton Seaport. Superstorm Sandy devastated a few buildings but some have been repaired. On Thursdays, Fred Reitmeyer carves in the one of the decoy carving shops. The Hunting Shanty has a nice collection historic decoys numbering around 100 on display. There are numerous Barnegat Bay sneakboxes on the property with an active Boat Shop with Ron Spodofora still building boats. The Tuckerton Lighthouse (not original but nice) has numerous exhibits inside referencing Life Saving in the 1800's, a surfboard museum with some going back to the 50's & 60's. All in all, the best time to visit the Tuckerton Seaport is for events such as decoy carving classes, food and music festivals, and the Decoy Show across the street the last weekend of September. Hope that gave a little insight. Dave.

NC Maritime Museum has three locations along the coast. They each have exhibits about waterfowling and boatbuilding heritage in NC.

Also look for the "Whalehead Club" in Corolla, NC. There is housed the NC center for Wildlife education with extensive ties to historic outer banks waterfowling.

I hope this is helpful info. Best wishes for your work.

Sag Harbor Whaling Museum

I would recommend the chesapeake bay maritime museum in St Michalels. I am getting married there in May, mainly due to there quest to save chesapeake bay work boats and have a neat decoy collection. O ya and the wife thinks its beautiful too! When we picked out the location last spring there was a nice raft of Blackheads(broadbill of the chesapeake) right off of navy point. I will reach out to a photographer friend of mine that has a great relationship with the curators... how would you like me to help you move forward?

Paul~

I found that index - and used it as my starting point. The personal knowledge I'm getting back now is very helpful.

All the best,

SJS

Thanks, Dave~

Susan and I visited over 10 years ago. Maybe I'll try to get down again this September.

Thanks very much!

Paul~

Clayton Show birds go to the Thousand Islands Museum right there in town. They are on my list!

All the best,

SJS

Sean~

We visited St. Michaels in the early 80s - one of the best I've seen - and a fine place for a wedding! Congratulations!

And, a bunch from our club (LIDCA) just got back from a decoy show there - where they sold a bunch of the Broadbill DVDs.
