Just a heads up, will be in FL next week, and Tuckerton in September. Will be driving the truck and can transport if anyone needs anything moved.

Anyone coming to Tuckerton from Lou's area of Michigan? Could use a quart of FME.....

Well dang, wish I was going to be in town next week. Love to catch up and have a beer, if nothing else. Enjoy FL. It's been exceptionally hot this summer.....

Sorry I will miss you Dani.... but I'll be back again soon I am sure! Been making that trip pretty often of late.... Last year May, November, then New Years, Feb, April and now September!

Hoping the tropical depressions push through this week and clear the coast so I am not driving in heavy rain on Saturday on the way down. Been plenty hot here too in VA, basically the same and sometimes hotter here. I have some long runs to get in next week, 10 miles on Sunday and 19 on Thursday.... hope to find some shade and a breeze at least.

What part of Florida are you all in? I get there once or twice a year, but my "base" tends to be Jupiter, then running the Turnpike N/S.

My trips typically combine work and friends intermingled. Finally at a "smart age" I'm getting better at planning hunting.

Can a newb solo on public in FL, or would i get got by snakes, gators, spiders, and whatever else crawls through your swamps?

What I get up here is mosquitos and a pissed off bull snake once in awhile. Skunks, too, but their smell is worse than their bite :-)

Hope you run fast enough to make a breeze to keep you cool. And that the tropical depressions all cooperate and get out of the way for you soon.

Rob, I live in Tallahassee but can be found in Jacksonville or Merritt Island fairly frequently. If you like fishing, Jupiter has GREAT fishing. Central FL hunting for someone who doesn't have a boat to get you around will be challenging. I think your best bet would be to try to pull a permit for either the STAs (Stormwater Treatment Areas) or for TM Goodwin. The STAs you will need some sort of boat there to cross the rim ditches. Or a float tube. TMGoodwin has areas that you can walk into the impoundments. There are several STAs that are huntable in S. FL. I think distance wise from Jupiter, either area is about the same. You should also add sharks to the list of critters that might get you. They can be found in the rivers where we diver hunt too and definitely in the Gulf on my side of FL. :)

You can look up the STAs and TMG properties from here: http://www.myfwc.com/hunting/by-species/waterfowl/

Rob - I'm originally from MN and now reside in Ft. Myers. I hunt the STAs regularly. Feel free to call me if you want. If you are serious about hunting I would be happy to join forces and I can outfit you with gear you'd need. Just waders, gun, and license is required. Both the areas Dani mentioned allow for 3-4 hunters to a permit. If you draw one a local guy would love to help you cause you'd likely have a place on your permit that would secure their access for that day. It has become pretty cutthroat and difficult to be drawn in recent years. You'd be a hero if you invited a guy or two to join your permit with you.

Last year I hunted with a guy from CA who hunted Okeechobee from an inflatable kayak. Pretty gutsy. There's a ton of pressure and yahoos out there. Locals don't much care for Bluebills so hunting the salt for them would be a good idea too since pressure is lesser and the areas they're found aren't tough to access... - Derek (763)274-9700

That's awesome info, thank you!

The "serious" part comes down to timing trips during hunting seasons and putting enough room in. My last trip to FL in May would have set up really well for a Thurs/Fri hunt.

Due to some new territory opening up I anticipate I'll be working out of Salt Lake/Denver the next few months. Will see if I can slide Florida in this winter.
