It's been a while since I posted last, but Canvas and I have been here. This Wisconsin season was fair. Not the numbers I was hoping for, but fun nonetheless. This was Canvas's first year hunting (she is 18 months old). Many things to continue working on with her, but she enjoyed getting my ducks. She had somewhere around 140 waterfowl retrieves and she's figuring out the crippled diver game. I have many pictures from the season that I will post at a later date.
We didn't get to layout hunt near as much as I had wished - weather was a very limiting factor this season.
This is a picture from a trip this spring:

This year my season won't finish with the Wisconsin close. I'm planning a two week freelancing trip over Christmas - just me and the pup. I'll be departing 12/25. :
My original plan was to start in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay for seaducks. As I was online buying my license, I became aware that a Maryland resident is required in the boat - Put a major kink in my plans. I was planning on doing one day guided, but without the freelancing portion, I am not going to Maryland.
My second destination was intended to be Maine - but it looks like I'll be heading straight there instead. Their grouse and snowshoe seasons are open through December - so I'll spend a good chunk of my first week doing the upland thing. My second week (and probably a few days during the first week) I plan to chase eiders. I'm towing an enclosed trailer where I will spend a few of the nights. Inside the trailer I'll bring my Avon. She's a 16ft SIB and should do just fine on the coastal waters. With one man, I won't be layout hunting - but should get some shooting from the grey boat. I just rebuilt the plywood floor inside the boat and tested it last night. I don't have experience in SIBs, but thus far I'm very impressed with the handling and stability. It's rated for 10 people and a 65hp motor. If anyone is in the coastal maine area and would like to join up for a hunt, shoot me a PM. I should have room for another guy in the Avon.
I am contemplating stopping in New York a day or two to hunt either Erie or Ontario....those shorelines make it quite wind dependant, so I'm not confident in those plans yet. Not knowing those areas I'll need to spend a day or two scouting first.
I hope to have some pictures to share after the trip-
