So talk of me being obsessed and crazy with all the duck hunting stuff and decoys came up and the Lady said I should get some "help". I told her I had you guys for a support group and she didn't by it and even called you guys Enablers!! How low. :)

Thanks for enabling me and give me great ideas
Pat

Pat,

I have only seen one "cure" for a duck/decoy/boat obsession. That usually entails a brand new obsession with something else. Sometimes it can be cheaper like the one I just got into - traditional archery OR it can be Waaaay over budget like bass/walleye tournament fishing for example where you need a $40,000 boat to keep up with the "Jones's". It seems to me that your lady is pretty lucky that we keep you on track and and don't let you stray into something else :)

Tell it could be worse ... you could have enabling friends who encourage you to stay out late drinking and womanizing.

I don't think I've mentioned I play rugby as well soooo....

I second what Matt said. I have friends that stay out late, drink too much and even cheat on their wives. We are harmless really!!!

Hello my name is Dave and I have been free of purchasing something duck hunting related for 15 days now....oops I thought this was the Duckhunting Aholics Anonymous meeting....

I view them as people that are counter-productive to achieving my goals.
I have 2 ex-wives and several ex girlfriend's that fit into this bracket.

It's media driven.

A girl with her hand under a crossword puzzle asking a question and the answer is
"He Went To Jarreds"( the jeweler)

I'd love to see an add on TV where a guy holds up a new O/U Citori and says
"She went to Cabela's"

The simple answer...
Ask her if you played rugby and duck hunted when you met.
If she affirms that you did, then she is the one who is guilty.
She represented that she was happy with you how you are rather than what she can change you into.

Just use simple un-emotional logic! It stops 'em cold every time.

My first wife kept griping about me being' "one of those duck hunters". She suggested a few times that I take up golf instead. So finally I agreed. Told her that I would but I was going to do it the right way. I'd be paying green fees, taking lessons from the course pro, had to get a set of clubs and a bag plus hand cart and of course could play almost year round instead of just during a short bird season and thank you for that. And of course would need a cart for those long days and a trailer which would have to be licensed and insured. Oh yes, new clothes and shoes. And don't they make golf videos and show tourneys on TV all the time. Thanked her for the new recreation and again mentioned that duck season didn't last all year and cost less per day afield than just green fees, which I'd be paying year round now.
That ended her anti duck hunt campaigne.

Pat, make sure you tell her that having "enablers" enables us to go duck hunting! Enables us to make the off-season go quicker, enables us to find sources for our needs-----decoys, calls, shells, waders,-----should I go on?

She's pretty good about it all just likes to give me a hard time every now and then (she plays rugby as well soo...) She finds it a little wierd that I check boats and wildlife like other guys check out women. Her argument is we met I had 1 boat now I have 4 water vessels (I don't like calling the canoe or skiff "boats") and only about half the decoys and at seems about ever two weeks or so something shows up in the mail. But I'm not complaining she said she'd help paint decoys when I finish carving them and occasionaly will come out hunting with me. She even has her own takle box and 3 spinning rods. The main issue is that Duck season ends, then comes ice fishing; ice fishing ends then comes turkey season, Turkey season ends then its time to fish then we start the whole process over. I tell her she'd go crazy if I was home every day especially considering I can't sleep in.

Pat,
To help with the "enabling" Pat Gregory and myself will be at the Oshkosh Decoy Show on the 6th of March!!

Let me know the details I might just have to make it up there!!
