My season has been going kinda downhill over the past two weeks, The saltwater has been very hot/cold. Our season ends next weekend so I figured with the arrival of our latest cold front I would go out for one more hunt. I try and hunt alone for my last hunt of the year with my dog Earl. It gives me time to sit and think about the years hunts and just have a good time in the marsh one last time. I went to a spot inand on a freshwater resevoir we have been hunting a bit. I have found this wonderfull spot that I have to walk for about a mile through the swamp to get to. Its great, it keeps most other hunters out. Well today was awesome, I had ducks all around me at shooting light but due to cloud cover I couldnt identify most of them so I sat back and waited. A duck was flying by about 20 yards in front of me when WHACK! A stinking hawk came out of thin air and grabbed it in the air! It was so cool to see. It sounded like a baseball getting thrown into a catchers mit. I ended up getting a bunch of pins in the spread and picked out two nice bulls. After I shot the second one a group of teal decoyed, There was at least 5 cinnimon drakes in it! I wanted to shoot another one for a double mount so I picked out the best one and jumped them up. I ended up scotch doubleing on him and a greenwing drake. A few minutes later another greenwing came and and stayed. Some time went by and a lone drake bluewing decoyed. It was meant to be I guess. My first lagit teal slam! On my last day hunting this year. I sat back and drank some coffee and watched more birds work. I then picked up and went walking for driftwood for another two hours. What a great morning! This has been a banner year for us on cinnys. Between me and my hunting partner we have shot 8 stud drakes! I've never shot one before this year. I'm still on cloud 9 after that hunt. Earl had a blast also as always. That knucklehead has a hunters soul and a marathon runners heart. He never quits. Sorry for the bad pic of the two of us, it was off a bucket with the timer on the camera.

Me and Earl, note my lucky MLB hat! Who needs a scull cap? Open water grey works just fine!
what a handsome bird!
