Estuary motor mount?

My estuary does not have any type of bracket....i just clamped the motor to the transom. I met another estuary owner at the ramp and he had a wood bracket that raised his motor at least six inches higher than mine. His was the older model with fiberglass hull and cedar topside. Mine is the newer all glass. I also have a drain and he did not.

My question is .... is the bracket a ?factory? option?

Chris,

Best thing might be to contact David Clarke (if it's one of his builds) as to a "factory" motor board. Other wise it certainly would be quite simple to make a motor board in what ever height you desire. Just how it would be attached and fitted to your present hull would be hard to say without a photo and some info on your present hull. What ever you do, I would avoid stacking spacers on the top as is shown in the photo in your post. A full height board is much stronger.

It would appear that one could add a motor board. I would suggest that it be thru bolted with a backer plate inside the present hull. If you are unsure what you need/want for a finished height, it is easier to start tall and trim as needed.

CHANGE THE WHOLE motor board so that cavatation plate is just even with the bottom of the boat. Call dave for some advice he knows best on whats best for his boats.

Paul,

Presently there is no motor board to change. The spacer behind the motor is simply that, just a spacer. It carries no load and adds no strength to the transom. Presently the motor is clamped to the transom, just below the spacer sitting on top of the transom.

There are two options. Extend the height of the transom and clamp to the transom. or Add a motor board and clamp to the motor board. Ether option would of course need to done in a manner which will have sufficient strength to carry to loads generated.

Chris, contact Dave. He built some with a splashwell and some with a motorboard. I think the splashwell was sized for Mercs? The builder is your best resource!
