Ethanol proof outboard?

But the 93 octanes available from several different oil companies that I know of have zero or very little ethanol so it's pure petroleum. Dave, you're saying that the 87 octane has no ethanol? Why would the cheapest fuels available with the lowest octane have no ethanol. Don't make no sense to me!

By law all fuel, 93 or not, has ethanol in many parts of the country (see map). RFG = reformulated gasoline and that is ethanol is in the fuel to improve air quaility.

What dave said is what I've seen in parts of the country as well, the 89 with ethanol is often the least expensive in parts of the midwest.

I know in Iowa it is. The 89 Octane is usually the first one on the left and then it goes 87 etc so that makes sense. Not in Indiana.

Tod,

My comment was directed more to the octane rating than price, but yes due to the subsidies, ethanal blends are typically (here in the midwest) the least expensive choice of fuel.

In my truck, I use the non-ethanal fuel myself because I get better gas milage and I think ( haven't actually run a test) that my increase in mileage makes up for the increase in cost over the ethanal blend.

I always use the non-ethanal in my marine engines. I guess I should feel lucky I still have a choice.

Yep, both cheaper and the 89 has the ethanol. My origional version was written to make that clear, but in editing it I made it unclear.
