Evinrude Etech 25 question

Any Evinrude ETech gurus out there? My regular duck partner just bought a new boat--16 foot Lund with a 25 Etech, side console.

Here's the question--he says there are 2 kinds of 2 stroke oil for E-techs, and the engine must be tuned for one type or the other. The dealer set his up for 50:1 oil and and said that was best. He says the owner's manual says motors used below 30 degrees F must use the 100:1 oil.

Any insight?

I'm pretty excited--get to help him take it out for the maiden voyage tomorrow. It will be the first time I have EVER had a ride in a brand new boat.

Hi Jeff: I have an E-tec 25. You should use the 100:1 oil in freezing temps. You will have to take it to a dealer so they can program the computer in the motor.

Use the 100/1 mix ratio and pure synthetic oil. Do not use standard 2 stroke oil. Oil is a little pricey but etecs sip it at 100 to 1.

I have an Etec 25 and the when I asked the dealer about it he told me that a few fishing guides run the 50:1 because you don't have to use the synthetic oil and they run there boats every day. For me I have the 100:1 and go through about a quart a season and I hunt on average 2 times a week. By the way I have been extremely happy with it. I have had it for 4 years now.

Thanks for the replies.

He's decided to get it reprogrammed for 100:1 for the reasons cited above. What's strange is that the dealer, who knew he was using this for duck hunting into January, didn't suggest this from the beginning.

We did take it out Sunday for a maiden voyage, and I have to say the Etech ran like a dream and was, if anything, quieter than a comparable 4 stroke. The only other folks on the lake were two bait dealers harvesting bait fish for ice fishing season, and they were pretty jealous.
