I am trying to get through this best I can. Yesterday afternoon my pal Walker was having trouble breathing and it was getting worse so we took him to the vet ER where they took some Xrays. His lungs were collapsing due to fluid in the chest cavity. His heart was also enlarged. If any of you know the story of this dog you will remember what a genetic train wreck he was. At 10 months he came up lame which proved to be EXTREME hip dysplasia, no sockets on either side. The breeder offered to put him down and repalace him on the spot. We had become attached to him so when the plan B of surgery for free and a replacement at a future date we accepted. Oh yeah and by the way he was missing a lower canine tooth. No big deal right? Well the first Christmas eve had us in the vet ER trying to figure out why his jaw had swollen like a bee bite. Turns out he had sprained his jaw on a big Christmas rawhide. When we went to our regular vet the day after Christmas she advised us he needed a root canal to prevent that from happening again. We decided to think about it. That night the vet called to ask if we would let her husband who is a dentist do a root canal on Walker for the cost of the materials. He wanted bragging right to his fellow dentists and wanted to do a good deed. Of course we let him do it and have had no troubles since with that tooth. Now at 4 1/2 years he has fluid on his lungs and two large masses in his body. He had a fitful night and so did we. This Am we picked him up and did the only right thing for us to do. We will miss him and it never will be the same. Waterwalker we will see you on the other side.
