Does anyone have any experience with either of the two boats. I have a 4 horse for it with a 15" shaft, will it work? Positive and negative responses please, pictures a plus. Thanks, Chris

Search the forum. There have been exhaustive threads on each of these boats verse other boats. Generally you will get the answer of the Fatboy being the better boat. If you are planning to put a motor on it, then you have to chose between the regular verses the DP. Pro's and con's with either.

I looked at the Fatboy to replace the Hoefgen I currently own and decided to keep what I have so I own neither the Fatboy nor the 4 rivers. Brother in law owns the 4 rivers and I didn't find it as good of a boat to float small streams and back channels. Was a good boat for bigger water but did not meet my needs.

I'm certain he would sell you the 4 rivers. Live anywhere near South Dakota?

No, i live in ct, but the ct river and long island sound is where i do most of my hunting so a boat for some bigger water is what i am looking for.

I dont think I would classify either boat as good for big open water, especially as primary transport.

Hi Chris, I had a four rivers 13' 6" layout, it's definitely not a big water layout boat. The boat is best suited for marsh type hunting providing you don't have to run any amount of big water to get there. I ran a 2hp on it and it moved the boat along fine. The short shaft 4hp that you have will work. I can't stress enough, these boats shouldn't be used for big water layout situations.

I wouldn't be using it as an open water layout boat, but mainly the marshes and mouths of the small tributaries of the river. I won't even launch on the main river. I was planning on building a kara but they seem as though they cant take as much chop as the factory boats, some times the winds kicks up to 1 or so feet. I already have a 14 deep v with a 15 merc for main transport.

Sounds like you have the right idea.

Chris,
I've owned both and I currently have a DP. They are both very good at what they do,
but as stated there not big water boats. I think your motor would work fine with either.
Best,
William
