Well after almost 2 years it is time to add a new hunting partner. I will be picking up this little guy the end of the month. Been a long-time sense I have had to train a hunting dog but I am looking forward to it. The goal with this one will be the same as with all my dogs, a family dog that goes hunting. I did a little bit of the field trial thing with a prior dog but am not looking for that level of perfection anymore. Just needs to be steady and pick up birds. I will get him whistle trained and working blinds but honestly, the way I hunt, it is not really needed. 90% of the time, he will just be jumping out of the tender boat to pick up dead birds around the layouts. I could do it just as easy with a net, but it is not near as fun. Also thinking about getting in a lease in Missouri for next year, so he may get some field work (primary reason for getting in the lease :) )

He has solid but not outstanding bloodlines. The mom is an English Lab and the dad is an American, so I am rolling the dice on what the drive level will be. But that is true with any pup.

You'll have fun with him, I'm sure he'll be a great companion in the house and in the field. We've had retrievers of various drive and ability. I never regretted having any of them from a hunting perspective, we train them to the best of our ability and accept them as they are. They become family and are treated as such.

Beautiful pup!!! Nothing better than the smell of puppy's breath!

My chocolate will be 8 in February, man the pictures and videos I have of him are awesome to go back through and reminders of incredible hunts! Leaving tomorrow night for camp in S Louisiana, let the good times roll!

I'm jealous. Have fun. My girl is turning 13 this year. She moves well for her age, but I needed to start looking for a pup about 3-5 years ago. I love training them up, but don't have the time right now.
