Filson

I am thinking of getting a Filson tin cloth Waterfowler hat. My Columbia Yazoo is getting long in the tooth. Any opinions? Is it warm?

They are wonderful hats at cooler temperature ranges. Any temp above 45 do not wear until you have cooled down because cotton wax does not breathe.

Yes...it is the same wool feel from the chest pockets on the tin jackets. It is insulated very well. Not a great hat to wear if you are active before the hunt.

Phil,

I've had one for at least 15 years I think. It's a very fine hat, wool lined and waxed with ear flaps. It's the only hat I wear for duck hunting.

I've always admired the Filson hat, however when 75% of your hunting buddies wear one, and this combined with all the blue 495"s, it begins to look like a Bobbsey twin convention!

I've been wearing mine for 20+ years.
one thing really I like about it , it doest blow off my head while going down the river at 40mph even with the ear flaps up.

Yes pretty warm, get one that fits. I like that you can wear it backwards when you don't need a brim.
