Finally got the Motor!! the Honker's alive!

Pickup the motor last Thursday, kind of a bittersweet ordeal. I learned that 15" transoms are a thing of the past and I should of made it 21". Anyway they told me not to worry and for $200 more they could have the motor on in a hour or so, they used a CMC lift and it was ready to go!

Took it out Saturday afternoon for a couple of hours and it ran pretty good, but it kind of felt like it was sucking air and it was throwing rooster tails off to the sides so that night I lowered it 2 holes
Sunday morning the youngest boy and I took it out for a couple of hours. Ran better lowered.

Here is a video of Colton running it, he said it was about a quarter turn on the throttle. It pops right up on plane and rides real smooth.

Saturday I'll take the GPS out and see how fast it goes.
 
Nice looking motor.... can't wait see it covered in paint!

The size of motor is the reason it is 20"... if you put a new 350 on it... it would be a 25"

Yamaha! In my humble opinion, you can't beat 'em. I owned several over the years on various boats and never had a complaint.

My new rig has a 2015 Nissan / Tohatsu. I hear they have a great reputation .......... I'm hoping so.

In any case great looking rig, be safe and lots of luck this season.
 
Very nice Craig! I had that same motor/tiller handle package, only in a 60hp. I loved that motor. My only caution, my key ignition was on the side of the tiller handle and I did a lot decoy deployment and retrieval beside the motor over the transom. I bumped the key more than once, bending it too. Fortunately I never broke it off. But it was a great motor, Enjoy!

Had it out again this weekend with the GPS got 32 mph out of it with Goose and I in it. Goose wasn't very excited about that.

Thanks for the advice Troy, I can see a potential problem with where the dog ladder is and the key. I plan on building a removable shelf I can place over the splash well to give Goose a bit more room to move around back there and I will need to remove the key just to be safe!

Now to start the blind.
 
Was that WOT? I only ask because that is what I get online with the 60 period and my hull s wider as well as longer if you made that two plans.
 
Yes that was WOT for about a minute, engine is still not fully broke in, manual says not to run it WOT for more than 5 minutes until I have 10 hours on it only have 7 as of Sunday.

The boat is 19'3" long and 7' wide. Should it be going faster?
 
Mine is 19'3"x 92" I have heard that 60to 70 doesn't make that much difference, but like you said... not broken in yet. Maybe the prop is the difference. I am very curious as I have my eye on a 1994 Yamaha 70 (on a boat... on a trailer for $2300 OBO)
