Finally got the seacoast out.

Yesterday was the first for sculling for the year, it was a high of over 50 sunny amd zero wind. Perfect for sculling but the seacoast is a hard float to hide without any chop. I cant wait to get a west coast boat, if anyone has a hayden gathering dust....

We initialy launched for some scoter but the tide switched and they were much further out in the sound than i wanted to paddle back fighting the extremely high moon tide. So we headed into the launch to move on when i was glassing and saw a loafing flock of birds way off with some buffies between us. I thought they were ruddies since in my mind it is too warm for bills to be moving around. Long story short we got to 100 yards and realized they were infact broadbill, so i scull the monster float as stealthily as i could. They went from sleeping to alert at 35 yards and jumped at 30. I dutch doubled my limit and my buddy knocked two down but one dove and never came up.

We had a failed atempt on geese that busted at 55-60. Then we got on 4 mallards i got a nice pair and my buddies gun jammed. So i had a steller day of shooting, lol.

Roasted up those fat mallards for dinner!

We loaded up the rig and were about to leave when we saw encon pull up. Which i have no problem with, he was wicked cool and we talked for an hour. He answered all of our questions, he was stoked about the bills too!

He recieved a complaint from a douche that said we were 200 ft from his house. His house is over 300 from the water and we were in the middle of the ct river about 1/4 mile away. He also said we were breasting out birds to hide them.

I cant stand these people after last years fiasco where someone threatened to slit our throats, i cant wait to get out of here.

Nikki is applying to different contracts starting this week. So far she applyed to one in gold beach and tried for one in spokane unfortunalty that one closed

There is a certain personality, both hunter and non-hunter, that should be forced to wear a T-shirt with: "If you can see me, you are in my way! " in bold letters four inched high...

Very nice!
I Hope to add a few broadbills to the season's myself next weekend!

Hi Chris,
Can you tell me your recipe for those two birds? How long in the oven and at what temp? Thanks!

Greg

I followed hank shaw’s guidelines for the temp/cook time. 450-475 for 20-25 min. Look up honest-food.com

I stuffed the cavity with onions garlic and a bay leaf, the breast side was rubbed with oil, salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme, and garlic.

Came out awesome, big ol fat mallards are delicious. I can only imagine what a canvasback tastes like.
