First cork

I carved my first cork decoy. I had an E. Allen hen buffy head and some black cork and decided to make one. It turned out ok but overall I know I can do better. It's my first and already have learned what to do for the next time to make a better decoy. It floats well which I was surprised out, without adjusting keel or adding weight.

that was a good stareter deke for you!

Make sure you have done some reinforcing on the tail area--a few 12D nails driven into the material along that edge will help reinforce the meaterial, which, by nature, is a mite fragile.
I am not sure if the picture is reading a bit bluish, but if you are having a problem making your greys turn grey, try this---two parts burnt umber to one part ultramarine blue--then when you play with white, add some raw umber--you should find that you can get some really nice, subtle greys.
all you need is time and something to use as a reference!!
enjoy gunning her!
