Over the weekend i had the chance to do some ice fishing for big pike up on lake of the woods in Manitoba. We caught a lot of 40 plus inch fish and had a lot of fun!

The sad thing is that my camera battery died about 2 hours into the adventure.... But here are a few snott-rockets from the first 2 hours.

All catch and release... The fish are staging outside of the river's mouth prepping for the spawn so we just take a few pics and slide 'em back.

OH MAN! Those are some awesome fish. I'm glad I didn't take any pictures of the crappies I caught through the ice this winter, your bait was probably bigger.
Got to agree with Lee, pike make good eats. 40"ers might be a little much but some 30"ers wouldn't be too bad.

Chris, I se you found something to do between seasons. Be careful here though you might get bit with boat building bug and then there is no salvation. Just one big season all year long. BTW nice pike. We should try to connect some time in the "off season" or even during. I get up there ussually the third weekend of Oct during our "MEA days". Good luck.

Chris,

Great pics! I use to live in Crookston. A buddy and I would head up to Zippel Bay for walleye. Most of our fish weren't too big. My buddy did get one the hole but he couldn't get it lined up to come up. We could see the head in one hole but the tail was on the far side of the other hole. The fish broke off and floated under the hole. My buddy tried to reach down and grab it. But, the 4 feet of ice was too much for even his long arms. It was his biggest walleye ever. But, nothing close to your pike!

We should definitly meet up but not during MEA.... The "sota" invasion leaves north dakota barren of waterfowl haha!

Chris, Yeah I know we shoot all the waterfowl out of the state but only on Fed land. I am not responsible, two years ago I drove to Rugby, shot one duck and turned around and came home (sad story but long). Trip before an old pal and I spent 4 days driving around and all we got was a nice road trip. Maybe ND should get a fence like the govt wants down the Rio Grande. Keep them "sota"out. Won't work on me, I got people there. BTW where were those big pike?(;>)We'll keep in touch.

I've done a couple of fall Duck hunt/fishing combo trips but never ice-fished up there. Looks like I might have to try it sometime... Anyone still make pickled Northern Pike??? Awesome pics..

sweet. sure makes a 3 lb smallie look like bait.
We only got out once this year and did not get any pictures.
Looks like a great dy.
